113 Architecture questions - aesthetics vs. economy?

Aesthetics vs. economy(Author: Georg Denninger) Since the very beginning of architecture, the aim has been to combine and realise technical, functional and economic solutions with a corresponding aesthetic. Even at the time of the advanced civilisations in Egypt and Greece, great importance was attached to the appearance of buildings such as palaces, temples and other magnificent structures. In modern architecture, however, technical and functional solutions are often prioritised over the aesthetic perception of the building for economic reasons. This applies primarily to residential buildings that characterise the cityscape. When designing and planning company headquarters, museums and, in some cases, public buildings, architects have a completely different scope for planning. Aesthetics and appearance as a status symbol play an overriding role in such buildings. These "landmarks" are often built by international star architects. This results in two groups with different values in terms of aesthetics and economic efficiency in architecture: magnificent and prestigious buildings vs. residential and functional buildings. Great importance is attached to economic efficiency, especially in residential construction, as housing is becoming increasingly expensive these days and will soon no longer be affordable for many people. Rarely are projects realised where neither the client nor the architect would not wish for a larger budget or greater scope for design. However, it is precisely these budget restrictions that require a great deal of creativity from us architects in the development of appropriate economic solutions, from the preliminary design to the execution details, so that the building blends in well with its surroundings and gives the residents a feeling of "being at home".
