If we try to design a building to be "beautiful", i.e. "aesthetic", as many people as possible should associate positive emotions with the building at first glance.
Issues such as building regulations, townscape, economic efficiency and technology are often conflicting aspects that we as architects integrate into the planning as best we can in order to ultimately elicit a happy "Oh, how beautiful!" from the viewer. If we can do that, we've won!
