113 Architecture questions - standing still is a step backwards?
Why does everything have to change to keep things the way they are?
Apart from pesky little pathogens, we are living in the best time ever on our planet: Prosperity and peace are more enduring than ever before in human history and our hometown is regularly ranked among the most liveable in the world. One could only wish that everything would stay as it is.
But be careful! We run the risk of falling for a fallacy here. If we really want to ensure that what we value so highly remains as it is, then we still have to change constantly and work actively to ensure that these values and treasures are preserved.
Simply sitting down and watching the sunset is not enough. Because standing still means going backwards and with every break we take, we lose a piece of our happiness. Why is that? The world is constantly turning and changing and we have to be active in this changing system so that what we love is preserved.
We can only preserve our nature if we continue to develop towards sustainability. We can only preserve our prosperity by thinking about development aid, for example. And our social peace is due to the ongoing dialogue between all those involved.
We must not rest on our laurels in the world of work either. To ensure that we remain one of the leading architectural firms in the future, we are constantly developing our expertise and technology. And with each of our projects, we are shaping the future. Moving with the times is not enough, you have to think ahead and be prepared for the future.
As Abraham Lincoln said: "The best way to predict your future is to create it."
