What is a daily construction report?

What is a daily construction report? A daily construction report serves as a logging instrument during the execution phase, which must be kept by the contractor (construction company/construction manager) in accordance with ÖNORM B 2110 (General Contractual Provisions for Construction Services). Essential information and facts must be entered in writing: weather conditions, staffing levels, equipment status, material deliveries, progress of work and activities carried out, special incidents and inspections as well as management services. In addition, all decisions and changes that are important for the fulfilment of the contract must be documented in the daily construction reports. Additional minutes, statements of facts and photos may also be enclosed. The reports must be verifiably submitted to the client or its representative within 14 days. If this is not the case, the entries shall be deemed accepted after 14 days without written objection. The daily construction reports can be kept in the traditional paper form, but digital apps are now also available to make work on site easier. It is recommended that the reports are printed out and countersigned in order to rule out subsequent manipulation. The construction diary serves primarily as a safeguard in the event of subsequent defects in order to be able to draw conclusions about, for example, incorrect processing in bad weather contrary to the processing guidelines and can be used as evidence in court. Furthermore, there is the possibility for the client to keep a construction book in which the construction progress is documented. However, this must be contractually agreed between the contractor and the client. If no construction book is kept, the client is entitled to add comments to the daily construction reports, which must be brought to the contractor's attention immediately. Irrespective of this, the client should regularly document the progress of construction work by means of records, photos, etc.
